Mamelodi Sundowns Notch Up 1-0 Win Over AmaZulu
Mamelodi Sundowns retained their top spot on the Premier Soccer League rankings following a 1-0 win over AmaZulu United yesterday, Sunday 18 September.
In a DStv Premiership match-up at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria, both teams played at a slow pace. Visitors AmaZulu attempted to break the goalless deadlock at the 28th minute, only for striker Gabadinho Mhango’s shot to be blocked by Sundowns’ new goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams.
Come the second half, both teams looked livelier, with Neo Maema, Marcelo Allende and Thapelo Morena coming onto the pitch as substitutes for the Brazilians to make fresh attempts at breaking the deadlock.
Ultimately, the hosts’ efforts paid off in stoppage time when Allende scored with a low shot into the right corner of the goalbox at the 91st minute.
Mamelodi Sundowns are now sitting very prettily at the top of the rankings with 19 points under their belt; AmaZulu United currently occupy sixth place with 11 points.
